Well, I’ve covered many of the rumours and scandal concerning Whitney Houston, and her biography, but this talented ebony superstar has a fantastically good side we must not forget.

Whitney Houston Anti-Apartheid Work:

From the start of her career, Whitney was a strong supporter of Nelson Mandela and the anti-apartheid movement.

When  she was a model, the ebony star refused to work with any agencies who did business with the then apartheid-controlled South Africa.

And in  June 1988, in London, Whitney joined other musicians to perform a set at Wembley Stadium to celebrate a then imprisoned Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday.

In 1994, when apartheid in South Africa finally crumbled and Nelson Mandela was voted President, Whitney Houston was invited to perform at a state dinner at the White House honouring Mandela.

And at the end of her world tour, Houston performed three concerts in South Africa to honour President Mandela, playing to over 200,000 people.

Whitney Houston Charity Work:

In 1989,  Whitney Houston set up The Whitney Houston Foundation For Children.  It is a non-profit organization that has raised funds for the needs of children around the world.

The aim of the Foundation is to care for homelessness, children with cancer and AIDS, and to promote other forms of self-empowerment.

Whitney Houston Supporting US Troops:

One of the most memorable moments of 1991 was Whitney Houston performing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV in January 1991, in honour of US troops fighting the Gulf War. Whitney’s recording of the song was released as a single and it reached the Top 20 on the US Hot 100.

Others have tried to make pop records out of the star Spangled Banner, but only Whitney Houston  turned it into a massive hit.

Later in 1991, Whitney Houston put on a  ‘Welcome Home Heroes’ concert for the soldiers fighting in the Gulf War and their families.

The free concert took place at the Norfolk Air Force Base in Norfolk, Virginia in front of 3,500 serviceman and women and was then broadcast free by HBO, across the nation.

Whitney Houston Paved The Way For Other Black Female Artists:

In the 1980s, although black male artists were beginning to be represented on the up and coming TV music channel, MTV, it was not until Whitney Houston’s music videos were played on the channel, that a black female artist was given regular air time.

After the breakthrough of Whitney’s records, other ebony female singers made the MTV list.  these included Janet Jackson and Anita Baker.

And black female artists began to be represented more on radio stations also.  They were no more to be disregarded.

When MTV’s rival, VH1, came into force, the path had been strengthened for black female singers of all rock/pop/R&B and Soul genres to receive substantial airplay.

Many ebony female singers have recognized Whitney’s influence in making their own music careers more successful.

Mary J. Blige has stated that that when Whitney Houston invited her onstage during VH1’s Divas Live show in 1999, this “opened doors for her”.

World famous ebony artist Mariah Carey, says Whitney was a huge influence on her work; Britain’s Leona Lewis is quoted as saying she idolised Whitney when she was child; and Beyonce and Alicia Keys have both said that Whitney Houston was an inspiration to them.

Whitney Houston Latest News:

Considering the ‘ups and downs’ of previous years, there was much speculation about Whitney Houston’s latest album, ‘I Look To You’.  And the scandal reared its ugly head straight away.

It has been proposed that, in order to cash in on the speculation with the publication of his auto-biography, in July 2009, Whitney’s former husband Bobby Brown emerged to blame her singer for his drug addiction.  He was quoted in the Daily Star as saying:

“I never used cocaine until after I met Whitney. Before then, I had experimented with other drugs but marijuana was my drug of choice.”

Whitney’s new album was finally released on August 2009 and, in most cases, Brown’s allegations were forgotten (at least for a while…).

The results for I Look To You were extremely positive. 

The album entered the Billboard 200 at number one, making it Whitney’s first number one album since ‘The Bodyguard’.

A much more positive Whitney Houston appeared on Television to promote her new album.  She gave a long-awaited interview to Oprah Winfrey.  The show achieved massive audiences.

Following her new promotional work on TV,Whitney appeared and performed the first single from her album on Television stations all over Europe.

In the UK, her performance on The X Factor received some criticism (and pictures of a ‘wardrobe malfunction’), but it didn’t stop Whitney’s single reaching number five in the UK record charts.

Whitney Houston received much more positive reviews in Germany, Italy and France.

Whitney has stated she will begin her international ‘I Look At You’ tour in April 2010 in the UK, which is eagerly awaited.

But despite all the (mainly) positive feedback, ‘I Look at You’ has not been nominated for any Grammy awards as was expected by many of her fans.

And Whitney Houston’s new energy in promoting her career goes on.

She featured on the January 2010 cover of InStyle, and the interview with Whitney talks about how she feels performing live again, being a ’sex symbol’ at the age of 46, Whitney’s relationship with her 16-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina (rumoured recently in the gossip press of trying to commit suicide), and discusses hopes of a possible return to the film studios.

The front cover of  InStyle shows Whitney Houston looking happy and healthy (even though the image looks ‘photo-shopped’).

And this is a great relief to her millions of fans.

Nevertheless, as always, there are certain sections of the celebrity press who are just waiting for Whitney Houston to fall.

It was reported by numerous sources that, ‘those close to her say the pressure of coming back have inched her closer to going back to her old habits…’  and it seems that the report was made with anticipation, rather than remorse.

In early January 2010, the National Enquirer, (no comment…) reported that Whitney Houston could soon be back on drugs, owing to the pressures of recent commitments.  The report speculated…

“She is still drinking and with Whitney, alcohol and drugs have always gone hand-in-hand. She’s worked so hard to get back on top. It would be tragic for it to go up in smoke because she can’t stay clean.”

Angry commentators argued that there was no evidence that Whitney had relapsed, nor could it be stated that she was going to, just because that is how her life went before.

Whitney Houston has recently presented herself, wherever she has appeared, with poise and confidence. She has found the strength to challenge all her problems.

And we should be very supportive of her for that.

The gossip press really shouldn’t be constantly trying to tear Whitney down.  They should be helping this multi-talented, extremely successful and influential black female artist to continue with her success.

Of course, then the celebrity press wouldn’t have anything to gossip about…

Whitney Houston Biography And Background Information:

Whitney Houston is an ebony American female singer, actress, former fashion model, and one of the biggest female stars to grace the record books and the celebrity gossip columns!

In 2009, Rolling Stone listed Witney Houston as one of the 100 greatest singers of the rock era.

But, as well as all her many claims to fame, Whitney Houston has also had her problems.

Her rise to fame, her successes, and some of those ‘problems’ are chronicled here and on the next two pages:

Whitney Houston was born into a family which was to become famous on the Black Music, R&B, and Soul scene. 

All very powerful female singers, they were all to become well known as international stars.

Whitney’s mother is singer Cissy Houston, her cousins are Dee Dee and Dionne Warwick and her godmother is Aretha Franklin.

With that musical background, Whitney Houston was almost destined to be one of the greats.

Whitney first started singing at her New Jersey church as a member of a junior gospel choir at age eleven. 

And she was soon performing with her mother, Cissy, in New York night clubs.

It was only a matter of time before Whitney was discovered by the man who was to become her long time friend and colleague, Clive Davis, of Arista Records. 

And that was the real beginning of history being made.

Whitney’s debut album ‘Whitney Houston’ was released in 1985. 

It was to become the best-selling debut album by a female artist at the time.

Her second album ‘Whitney’ was released in 1987, and it became the first album by a female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Whitney, was soon extending her fame as an actress. 

And to make the ‘cross-over’ from film to disc, she also released albums of the films’ soundtracks.

Whitney Houston Actress and Movie Star:

In 1992, Whitney Houston appeared in her first starring role in the film The Bodyguard, starring alongside actor Kevin Costner.

The same year, the film’s original soundtrack, featuring Whitney, won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. And its lead single, ‘I Will Always Love You’, became one of the best-selling singles in music history.

The film itself had mixed reviews, and Whitney Houston’s performance was often described as ‘wooden’, or, ‘just being Whitney’, but the film was an outstanding commercial success for its time.

The Bodyguard grossed more than $121 million in the United States and $410 million worldwide, making it one of the top 100 grossing films domestically at its time of release.

Whitney Houston went on to star in a number of successful (and sometimes less successful) films, including, Waiting to Exhale (1995), The Preacher’s Wife (1996) and Nora’s Hair Salon (2004).

From a less-observant viewpoint, there appeared to be no stopping Whitney in her tracks in achieving all-round, long-term success in music and acting.

Early pictures of Whitney Houston show a very happy and content young woman. 

She is truly beautiful in her self-confidence.

And many said both of these ‘issues’ were down to her relationship with the singer, Bobby Brown and her use of drugs..

Ebony Celebrity Halle Berry won a well-deserved Oscar for baring her juicy black boobs, booty, and hairy bush.

Halle Berry Latest Jan 8th 2010:

Canadian police in Montreal said Friday that it was wrong for one of their officers to whisk Halle Berry, her model boyfriend and baby through airport security at Montreal’s Trudeau airport.

Evidently, a police constable at the airport decided to let the couple pass a long line of travellers

This apparantly was after Gabriel Aubry, a Quebec model who is Berry’s boyfriend and father of her 22-month-old daughter, Nahla, asked if it would be possible for them to do so.

Amid protests (mainly from other ‘celebs’ who felt they deserved the same ‘important treatment’…) an embarrassed Montreal police chief issued a directive to all officers Friday, urging them to avoid a repeat of the whole embarassing episode.

My thoughts on this…

Ebony Celeb Jaimee Foxworth, is an American actress.

She became famous for playing the part of Judy Winslow, the youngest daughter, in the hit series ‘Family Matters’.

Good, wholesome entertainment, you could say. 

And being born in a military family, you would think her strict upbringing would have kept this attractive ebony girl to her wholesome ways, even as she became an adult.

But Jaimee Foxworth decided to extend her fame…

And for a while she appeared as a porn star, using the name ‘Crave’.

So why the sudden change from youthful sitcom star, to hardcore pornstar? 

Well, there is a story behind it…

Jaimee Foxworth began modelling at the age of five, and her photogenic looks and her bubbly personality caught the eye of television producers.

Jaimee began her TV career by appearing in advertisements.

But it wasn’t long before she caught the attention of the producers of the family entertainment series, ‘Family Matters’.

Jaimee was given the role of Judy Winslow, the youngest of the Winslow family’s three children and appeared on the show for four seasons.

But that promising long-running sitcom career was suddenly brought to a halt.

At the end of the fourth series, Jaimee’s character went up the stairs…and disappeared for ever!

Her character had been written out of the series without explanation.  Amazed audiences watched the next series to discover that  the Winslows now appeared to have only two children.

Why this happened appears to be a mystery, kept tightly sealed by the show’s production team.

But the effects of this sudden ‘cut off from fame’ were devastating to Jaimee Foxworth.

So what did Jaimee Foxworth do?  Sadly, like many scorned female stars…she eventually turned to drink and drugs.

But before anyone jumps to conclusions, it has to be said, that Jaimee Foxworth had some real problems to face.

Her family were reportedly on the verge of bankruptcy and (according to which source you read), they either took all of Jaimee’s earned fortune to pay off their debts (with Jaimee’s permission), or a judge granted them access to Jaimee’s trust fund.

Either way, all that money Jaimee Foxworth had earned as a rising ebony star went the same way as her sitcom contract…it disappeared!

Faced with no money, plus a really shattered self esteem after losing her screen character so badly, Jaimee Foxworth sunk into depression….which was only to be exacerbated by her growing alcoholism and use of drugs.

Then appeared, to a demoralised Jaimee Foxworth, what seemed like a fresh chance at fame.

At the age of 20, Jaimee was offered a nude modelling session.  Hopes of eventually appearing in glossy ‘men’s mags’ must have been at the forefront of her confused mind….

The money offered for the modelling session was ok, but not brilliant.  But the studio showed Jaimee a way she could make much more money…appearing in porn films.

Jaimee took the offer and starred for two years in a number of hardcore porn movies as pornstar ‘Crave’.

Talking to Oprah Winfrey in 2009, Jaimee Foxworth stated that she hadn’t thought back then that the porn movies would be seen by more than the usual porn viewers. Of course, this was naive…but Jaimee was ‘not herself’ at that time….

There is always someone lurking, waiting to pick up some juicy celebrity gossip and ebony star Jaimee Foxworth as porn star ‘Crave’ was soon ‘outed’ …

All over the internet clips from her hardcore movies surfaced.

Jaimee, who had tried to keep them a secret from her family, was forced to admit all to her mom, who was shocked ,but understood her daughter’s plight.

On hearing the rumours and (naturally….) watching the movies, some of Jaimee Foxworth’s family and many of her friends were not so sympathetic.

Jaimee told Oprah that it was the worst time of her life.  And the leaked videos, with the subsequent furore, certainly didn’t help her attempts to beat her substance and alcohol abuse.

That took much longer… However, eventually Jaimee ‘got herself clean’ and began to address her career.

But that in itself brought the Jaimee Foxworth porn movies back into the spotlight.  And it has to be asked…was this the way Jaimee now chose to deal with her notoriety…to make a name for herself on the back of it…?

In 2008, Jaimee Foxworth took part in the reality TV show ‘Celebrity Rehab’, and talked about her substance abuse issues with ‘Dr Drew’.

This backfired a little, however, as on his July 17, 2008 radio show, ‘Dr. Drew Live’, Dr. Drew Pinsky briefly mentioned that he suspected  Foxworth was still using cannabis. But Jaimee Foxworth was back on the front pages nevertheless.

In December 2008, People magazine reported that Foxworth was pregnant and in May 2009, they announced the birth of a boy to Jaimee and her long-term boyfriend, Michael Shaw.

The magazine also mentioned Jaimee’s appearance on the reality TV show and that she was  expected to release her autobiography in 2009.  All good publicity, a cynic would say…

Consequently, in Autumn 2009, the US TV One series, ‘Life After’ showed Jaimee’s story.  It dealt with her disappearance from ‘Family Matters’, those notorious porn movies, and her use of marijuana, which she claimed to have stopped smoking (despite Dr Drew’s suspicions…).  During the show, viewers got to see Jaimee’s newborn son.

The interview on the Oprah Winfrey Show solidified Jaimee Foxton’s attempt to get back on the front pages, as a celebrity at least.

Some would say ‘good luck to her’, others are, perhaps, a bit more sceptical.

Me?  I’ll wait and see what the coming months bring.

Time magazine ranked Mo’Nique’s performance in Precious as the "Best Female Performance of 2009," beating seasoned actresses like Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore and Marion Cotillard.

And the accolades for Mo’Nique’s role in Precious still go on.  She has received a Golden Globe Award, and it is widely considered that she will get an Academy Award ‘Oscar’ for her performance.

Of course, as Mo’Nique has become a famous celebrity ebony star, there has been more and scandal and hearsay picked up by the gossip press…

Mo’Nique and Relationships:

Mo’Nique is currently in her third marriage and both she and her husband, Sidney Hicks, have stated that theirs is ‘an open marriage’.

It seems that previous divorces have made Mo’Nique re-consider how she manages her relationships.

Talking about her open marriage on the Oprah Winfrey show, Monique explained that her previous marriage failures had been down to her searching for an ‘extra oomph’.  But now she has realised that an honest relationship is more important than lying about sexual flings, and it all falls into place.

Celebrity ebony Star Jayne Kennedy has a real claim to fame.
